The members of the Kanawha County Board of Education are asking for letters of interest from community members who would like to be considered to serve the remaining term of the board seat vacated due to the passing of Mr. Pete Thaw.
The Board provided the following statement: “Mr. Thaw leaves an incredible legacy and his seat is one of great magnitude. WV State Code calls for the Board to appoint someone to fill the vacancy and we want to make sure that we’ve considered all those interested in filling this important position. We know that Kanawha County is full of great talent and citizens who care deeply about our children.”
Appointed members must meet the same qualifications as a regular candidate for a county Board of Education. Those requirements can be found in WV State Code §18-5-1a. Interested candidates should familiarize themselves with the requirements before applying. Board members cannot appoint a member from magisterial district 1 due to the fact that the maximum amount of board members from that district are currently serving on the Kanawha County Board of Education.
Eligible citizens interested in the position can submit a letter of interest detailing qualifications to Carol Hamric, Executive Director of Human Resources, via e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org or via mail/hand delivery to 200 Elizabeth St., Charleston, WV 25311. Letters will be accepted beginning today, Monday, January 8, and must be received by 4 p.m. on Friday, January 12, 2018.
Upon the Board's appointment, the selected member will serve through June 30, 2018.
Those expressing interest should note that their name could be released publicly during or after the conclusion of the appointment process.
